With a bang, the door to the saloon slams open. For a moment, the hollering and music and roars for more ale quiet. A pearlcatcher swaggers in, a grin on her face, a fierce scar covering one eye, her pearl in a sling over her shoulder. She slams a sack of gold down on the bar: it’s so overfull that coins slip through the seams.

"ALL RIGHT, MERCENARIES," she roars. She grabs someone else’s drink and downs it in one gulp. "You know there’s a war on! You’ve heard ‘do it for glory,’ and ‘do it for honor,’ and ‘do it for the tricksy god of thieves!’ But you and I, we know what REALLY makes the world go ‘round, wouldn’t you say?"

She grabs a coin and hurls it into the air, where it flashes in the careening lamplight. When she catches it, she shows the room the side it landed on: a shining ruin. One of Lightweaver’s dubloons, then.

"I’ve got gold, and you’ve got swords! Let’s make us an arrangement!"

Sell your dragons here!

Yo, any of you folks play dragons? I don’t think we ever asked or brought it up before. If you do, please consider supporting the Light as the relentless rematch with Shadow nears to a close tomorrow.

…Not only is Sunday my birthday (so winning dominance that week would be a swell gift) but we are of course fighting this time to release brainwashed POWs. Truly, there is no nobler a cause.

Sae: art and prose both, this is a beautiful memorial.
I have always felt that sometimes “online friends” - those that we’ve never met in person - can be more profound and more influential than even most people we interact with everyday. I hope as time goes on, the average person can come to recognize and respect these sorts of deep relationships, and also to understand that the internet can forge such positive and proactive experiences.

mars-maggie:

Before Megatron was a Warlord, before he was a Revolutionary, before he was a Gladiator, he worked in the mines. It was a dangerous occupation, with little pay and myriad hazards. He had seen many friends come and many friends go, and of those leaving only half were lucky enough to leave by choice. When a laborer worked miles beneath the surface, alone, it was common enough for them to never make it back up to see the sky.
Sometimes it took the crew days to notice. A miner wouldn’t return to the barracks, and rumors would circulate that he had taken double shifts or that he’d gotten a better job offer.
Then the crystals would start showing up.
Other times, it was easy to tell. There would be a rumble, and a shout, and suddenly there were rocks falling and you were running for the nearest stability strut hoping that the entire planet wasn’t collapsing around you.
When it was over, there were always the crystals.
New miners thought they grew naturally, but the old miners had been around long enough to know.
They’d been around long enough to have a small collection stockpiled, ready to plant in the deep, dark mineshafts. The crystals glowed, like tiny pinpricks of distant suns keeping them company when all other light had fled. They glowed when they were unearthed, they glowed when they were held, and they glowed when they were set down onto a rocky surface. They always glowed. They’d been glowing longer than Megatron had been alive.
They glowed in a long trail any time a miner didn’t make it back out to the surface, lighting the way from the bottom of the mineshaft to the entrance. They were a beacon, to show lost souls the way back to the stars.
They were glowing now on the surface of Cybertron where he laid them carefully, mirroring the twinkling lights above.
He’d been angry, when Barricade had left. He’d been angry, and he’d said things that he knew he would always regret…
But it didn’t matter. It didn’t matter how angry he had been, because
Barricade was out there somewhere. He was out there, and as long as even one Decepticon soul was lost, Megatron would lay down the trail that would lead them home.
Barricade would find his way.
All he needed to do was follow the stars.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’ve been working on this since Monday, when I got the news that my online friend Jayde had died in a car accident.
She and I had been playing Megatron and Barricade together for almost five years. My Megatron was IDW and pre-war, her Barricade was Bayverse post-war, and they taught each other a great deal about what was worth fighting for and what wasn’t. The picture is not yet finished, but this is the version that I sent in a scrap-book to her funeral and so this is the one I am posting for now.
Find your way home, Jayde…
Slowly documenting the progress of constructing a coat from scratch. In other words—I’m starting to write instructions for the patterns I’ll be selling!
Above is the layout for a small-size Organization coat. There are certain gaps where I changed the length (making the coat and sleves longer), which will be fixed for the final pattern. This is just one layout option…working with a fat fold instead of a long one will come next.
It’s also nice to know that I can get a whole small coat into less than 4 yards! I’m guessing that a medium is going to take about 5, and a large is going to take about 6 at this point.
This is the start of the long process of documenting our work.  More to come soon!
Pictures like these make me really want to get back into doing cosplay myself again.  I miss hanging out in a large group of folks that are really passionate about a game/show/series and really creative in their way of showing it.  ;-;
Right now, you can benefit from my reminiscing.
Although I’ve been very busy with a new job and with some other personal projects (currently writing, though it does vary) I’d like to offer a special **Christmas Coat.**
Its going up on Ebay this Saturday, the 23rd, and will end next Saturday, the 30th.  This coat will be to the auction winner by Christmas.
A link will be posted here and on our Facebook when the auction is live!
Limited Run Organization XIII Cosplay Coat available now through Ebay Auction!
Since I’ll either be going to Mars or joining the Air Force, I do not know how many more of these I have left—especially since I’ve just gotten a new job for the foreseeable future.
Here is one to tide us over until I can begin working on patterns this fall!
One last coat for now!
Last coat listing from Saeru ends in a couple days. No more from us are officially planned after this one. O_o
Applications for the Mars One program are ending in just a few days. It’s been one big adventure since I learned about the program in January, and its also been a lot of work planning and shooting a video, traveling, and doing research. It’s going to be a lot more work, still!
This is an awesome chance to go to Mars, fly through the cosmos, and really see what heights humans (and some robots!) can achieve together. Please help this long time geek, costumer, engineer, and space enthusiast have a shot by clicking the link to the video above and rating.
Lets shoot for the stars, and make sci-fi a sci-non-fi!
mars-maggie:
So I make Organization xiii coats.
I’ve been making them for six years now, beginning with a pattern that I drafted from scratch, cruising through starting a business just to get giant zippers, and ending with a long line of happy cosplayers.
At the beginning of this year, I stopped offering coats as I began my intended journey towards joining the Air Force.
Now, I’m offering a few, limited coats as my journey takes me instead towards Mars.
This Friday I’ll be putting one up on Etsy. The cost will be 500$ for a fully customizable coat.
You can see a previous listing here if you’d like an idea what you’ll be getting. The new coat, however, will be going up on Nostalgia Bomb’s Etsy store instead.
Thanks so much for sticking with me all this time.
nostalgiabombstudios:
HEY YOU! Yeah, you! Are you going to TFCon?
Are you interested in purchasing some of the fine, hand-made products shown above (or perhaps from this shop, or something you’ve seen browsing our Tumblr)?
THEN NOSTALGIA BOMB STUDIOS NEEDS YOUR HELP!
All of our merchandise is handmade by us— three folks living in a house trying to scrape together a living doing what they love. But unfortunately, money right now is incredibly tight, for everything, and that includes crafting supplies.
So what does that mean?
It means that we’re going to have limited quantities of all of our merchandise available at TFCon. In the interests of keeping our customs costs down, a lot of our non-TF merchandise (which, again, you can see at our shop) isn’t even going to be coming with us to the con.
So what does this have to do with us helping you?
Easy! We’re going to open our entire stock to online pre-order!
How’s that going to work?
Also easy! You tell us what product you want, we tell you the price, you give us half that cost in advance, and we’ll bring your item to con and hold it just for you. Then you pay us the second half in-person and you’re guaranteed to get what you want from us!
If you’re coming to the con and want something from us that’s non-TF, this is the best way to ensure you can get it. That includes any of our IZ hats or video game merchandise, since, again, very very limited quantities of these items are going to make it to this con.
What if I get to con and decide I don’t want the item after all?
Don’t worry! If you change your mind or you see the item in person and decide you don’t want it, then we’ll give you your pre-order money back. No harm, no foul!
I like your stuff, but I’m not sure I want to buy it at TFCon. Why not order it from you online some other time?
No shipping! All items we sell online of course come with an attendant shipping charge; if you pre-order for pickup at TFCon, you won’t have to pay for shipping!
I’m not interested in pre-ordering, or I’m not going to TFCon this year. Is there still something I can do to help?
Yes! Please please PLEASE signal boost for us! Every reblog gets us more visibility and helps us out!
I’m not going to TFCon this year but I really, really want something you’re offering. What can I do?
If it’s listed in our shop, go ahead and order it! If it’s not yet listed, I’m going to ask you to please be patient; we’re bringing some exciting new products to TFCon— and new means we haven’t had a chance yet to get them properly listed. But everything will make it up in our Etsy eventually, and as soon as it’s up, you’ll be able to order it!
You said you don’t have all your merchandise listed in your shop yet. Is there somewhere else I can see it?
Sure is! Click here!
I want to pre-order something! What do I do?
The best way to arrange a pre-order is to EMAIL US at jaykaybee @ comcast . net. This will get you the fastest response! You can also send us a message through tumblr or leave a comment here (anonymous comment IS enabled so you don’t need a DW account).
If you have any questions at all you can also contact us that way!
I want to pre-order but I don’t have the money right now. What can I do?
We’ll be accepting pre-orders until Monday, July 22. As long as you have money before then, you’re golden! We’ll be taking payments for all pre-orders via Paypal.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to message us on Tumblr, comment on the stock list page, or send us an email and we’ll do our best to get back to you ASAP.
Thank you for looking and a special thanks to anyone who signal boosts or considers pre-ordering!
Check out some of the nifty stuff that Saeru has been designing lately w/ Nella and Dirge!
By popular request, Saeru’s newest Transformers body pillow case design is finally ready for consumption! (The parody of this whole concept really comes full circle when featuring Drift, huh?)
We here at NBS are happy to announce a brand-new body pillow design— and isn’t a dakimakura Drift just all too apropos? So. Every cosplayer in Chicago likely is gonna be camped here for the next 6 months.
chicagopubliclibrary:
Chicago Public Library Welcomes City’s First “Maker Space”
From Crain’s Chicago Business:
Next month, the Chicago Public Library will open the city’s first free “maker space” on the third floor of Harold Washington Library in the Loop. The pop-up fabrication lab will offer the public access to 3D printers, laser cutters, a milling machine and a vinyl cutter as well as a variety of supporting design software.
The facility is the first to come out of the CPL Innovation Lab, an effort to introduce new technologies to city residents. And the library is the first in a large city to experiment with a “maker space,” the city says. Though it will be similar to maker spaces at the Museum of Science and Industry and Pumping Station: One, this fab lab will be free to all.
The space opens July 8 and will close at year-end. After its six-month run, the library says it will consider hosting labs in neighborhood branches.
The space fits into a growing movement of hands-on collaborative learning environments that allow people to come together and exchange ideas in the pursuit of innovation, and was funded by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services in Washington.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer Chicagoans the opportunity to learn firsthand new technologies and skills used in today’s manufacturing at the library,” Library Commissioner Brian Bannon said in a statement. “The maker lab is the first of several ideas we plan to test over the next few years in the Innovation Lab, as we focus on expanding access to 21st century ideas and information to our communities.”
It’s that time again! A new giant batch of our zippers is being planned for production starting next month, and we would like your input, as always. Want some zippers that no one else makes ? We wanna make those!
► Please feel free to let us know what you’d like to see in:
  ♦ colors (of teeth or fabric - either matching or contrasting)
  ♦ lengths (really nothing is too long)
  ♦ styles (bag-opening, jacket-separating or just teeth chain)
  ♦ gauges (giant #30, large #10 and new mini #5)
Hint: many zippers in silver, white, red, purple and GLOW-IN-THE DARK are already on the go-list. Requests for those colors can very likely be added into our batch most easily.
Possible other colors may include: blue, orange, pink, magenta, yellow, gold, pewter, lime green and indigo. Wanna see those, too? Vote ‘em up!
★ Please feel free to drop us a note on the Master Zipper Suggestion list and/or reblog this post with your choices.
